Tattershall Castle

Tattershall Castle Lincolnshire

Wednesday 12th August 2015

The 'Glorious 12th'! No photographing grouse today. I ventured into Lincolnshire and a visit to Tattershall Castle, a beautiful brick building. The castle was built by Ralph Cromwell, Lord Treasurer to King Henry VI between 1434 and 1447. It was built of brick on the site of an earlier castle. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of medieval brickwork in the country. Lord Curzon restored the castle and gave it to the National Trust in 1925. The views from the top of the Keep are fantastic, you can see for miles. Where is it? Next door to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. Our arrival at the castle was greeted with four RAF Typhoon's taking off (very loud) and then a display by a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain memorial flight. A good day.
